DESCRIPTION: According to the Director of the famous Framingham Heart Study, the best way to manage cholesterol and heart disease risk is with a more plant-based diet. Why then, don’t more doctors advise their patients to change their diets?

Dr. Ornish talks about how diet can be more sustainable than drugs, since compliance is more based on love-of-life rather than fear-of-death. See his editorial in Convergence of Evidence ( ).

More on how lifestyle medicine is not only safer, and cheaper, but more effective:
• Lifestyle Medicine: Treating the Causes of Disease ( )
• Convincing Doctors to Embrace Lifestyle Medicine ( )
• Fully Consensual Heart Disease Treatment ( )
• What Diet Should Physician’s Recommend? ( )

Many physicians just weren’t taught the power of diet:
• Doctors Know Less Than They Think About Nutrition ( )
• Medical School Nutrition Training ( )

But there have been cases of the medical profession actively seeking to limit further nutrition training. See my series about a bill in California:
• Nutrition Education Mandate Introduced For Doctors ( )
• Medical Associations Oppose Bill to Mandate Nutrition Training ( )
• California Medical Association Tries to Kill Nutrition Bill ( )
• Nutrition Bill Doctored in the California Senate ( )

Why not take drugs every day for the rest of our lives instead of using dietary change? That’s the question I ask in my video Fast Food: Do You Want Fries With That Lipitor? ( ) Not only is that not treating the root cause, but there are potentially serious drug side-effects. See, for example, Statin Muscle Toxicity ( ) and Statin Cholesterol Drugs and Invasive Breast Cancer ( ).

  1. The medical tech who took my blood told me that he had never seen a 2.1 HDL
ratio as low as mine before. Apparently, my vegetarian diet is working.

  2. Great video! One of my recent videos was about the Australian Heart
Foundation not giving any spotlight to a low fat plant based diet. It’s not
just doctors that are underestimating the role of diet in preventing
disease, but also the foundations that raise money to research these
    diseases!

    1. +Frederick0220 When doctors say to eat paleo, when nutritionists say to eat
paleo, when paleo pops up everywhere around you….it’s not naive to
      believe paleo works.

Per Dr. Greger, the number one reason doctors (who know about the plant
diet’s superiority) don’t prescribe a plant diet is “their perception that
patients feel deprived” of meat and junk food. Basically, they believe
people can’t get off the junk food, so instead, they prescribe calorie
counting, portion control, etc. This has helped lead to the paleo diet.

The government health guidelines hasn’t helped either. Either they are
purposely lying to us or they are like the above doctors. Further, by
subsidized the meat and dairy industry, the government helps them promote
meat and dairy…they get free advertising.

Basically, hardly no one of authority is telling people the best way to
eat. Even when someone tries, they get misled. For example, low-fat vegan
Marilu pitches her diet to Dr Oz. In part 3, a table is set up with meat
      products (WTF!!!).

    2. +Brain Rush
I find this so bizarre. Like, didn’t she protest this insinuation that she
eats meat? At my local health food store, the staff laugh at the Dr. Oz
Recommends shelf; they think of it as the weekly guideline for what NOT to
      buy.

    3. +tamcon72 “weekly guideline for what NOT to buy”

lol…I tend to view the mainstream media, politician, academians, etc. as
Bizarro sources of info…whatever they say, I assume the opposite.

They say be scared of Isis, I hear not be scared of Isis. I haven’t been
scared of the middle east since the 9/11 “Official” story.

They say meat, dairy, and a glass of wine are healthy, I hear they kill you.

    4. +Richard Lucas just because we’ve been doing things for centuries, doesn’t
mean it’s the right way. When we had to survive, we adapted. Doesn’t
make it right. Just like slavery -we did it for a loooong time, was it
right? no. And yes, meat industry has the funds to brain wash people with
their commercials, law suits and lets not forget GMO ingredients.

    5. There are so many ways to do paleo and considering all the changes made to
foods in the food supply, it’s almost impossible to eat exactly as people
ate during the paleolithic times. There are those who refer to themselves
      as paleo vegans.

  3. +NutritionFacts.org i wonder why all the doctors do not prescribe dietary
changes to the patients suffering from heart diseases. 1:39 is
unbelievable! Importance of diet is underestimated by the doctors. Thank
you for sharing this informative video.

  4. people don”t want to do the hard work, to gain healthier bodies.. it’s all
too easy to remain “doing the normal routine” “you can lead a horse to
water, BUT .. you can’t make him drink” it’s all about ‘commonsense ,
which most people are SHORT on…

  5. Funny how there was no mention that 90% of physicians don’t know the first
thing when it comes to nutrition. Working in renal clinics patients with
hyperkalemia frequently come in saying “my doctor just told me not to eat
    potatoes.”

    1. I am a heart patient and specialist suggested me for a by-pass and I take
after his suggestions and they did my detour. Trust me I recuperate truly
rapidly and the significant reason was my solid eating methodology and less
smoking! Additionally this site truly bail me out http://goo.gl/ypLjhR .It
      constitute of truly solid tips!

    1. Perfect Video!! Eating a diet of seafood, dairy products along with meat
and fats from organically grown animals can reduce many of the heart
disease risk factors. This is what I get from another site
http://doctorbing.com, thanks for providing such nice information. Thanks
      and best of luck!!
